If you are more active (working out 5 or more days per week) then you can probably eat 1700 calories per day. If you are less active, stay closer to 1,500 calories, or even 1,200 calories if you want to speed up your weight loss. Again, don’t try to lose weight if you are 120 pounds or under. 

To lose fat, you have to burn more calories than you eat. Working out daily (shoot for a heart rate of 50-70% of your max heart rate) or even just going on a long daily walk is helpful. The more you move your body the more calories you will burn. Taking at least 10,000 steps per day is a healthy lifestyle that lends itself to a slim body. On the other end of the equation, controlling calorie intake is critical. The fewer calories you eat, the more important each calorie is as far as nutrient content. It becomes more important to only take in healthy, nutrient dense calories so that you don’t create nutritional deficiencies. The foundation of your eating plan should be water, vegetables and some low carb fruits.
